Which Primer to use?
Which Primer to use?
Selecting the right primer is as important as selecting the right paint. We have a broad range of specially formulated, water-based primers from Dunn-Edwards. Each of these primers deliver outstanding performance on the surfaces they were designed for. Read on to match the correct primer to the right surface.
Primers
MASONRY
To promote excellent adhesion to surfaces such as plaster, brick, or concrete block, and provide resistance to alkali and efflorescence, use an epoxy-fortified primer such as EFF-STOP Premium for porous masonry.
ADHESION TO OIL-PAINTED OR SMOOTH SURFACES
For adhesion to existing oil-painted surfaces, formica or metal, use ULTRA-GRIP Select. It forms the perfect bonding layer for water-based paints. For additional stain blocking, use ULTRA-GRIP Premium.
INTERIOR STAINS AND ODOURS
Some stains will bleed through most primer and paints no matter how many coats are applied. The same applies for severe odors like smoke from fires or cigarettes. The solution is a stain blocking primer such as BLOCK-IT Premium
WOOD KNOTS
Whether your wood has serious tannin staining, or it simply requires a good primer before painting, use a premium wood primer such as EZ-PRIME Premium.
NEW PLASTERBOARD OF PLASTERBOARD REPAIRS
New plasterboard or lining paper used for new construction or repair work absorb paint differently. This will result in blotchy, dull areas under the paint and an inconsistent sheen. The solution is to seal the plasterboard using a primer-sealer such as VINYLASTIC Premium.
